What's your idea of a "perfect cricket tea"?

Obviously Mrs. H's takes some beating, as does the beauty the first team had at North Cave in 2009. However, a "perfect tea" is obviously a subjective thing. My criteria would be:

1) Extensive range of snacks – in this category I would include pork pies, sausage rolls and other "non-sandwich" items
2) Crisps/Cheesy Comestibles – always a hit
3) Good cake – Good cake is essential! This is where Mrs. H scores highly with the "caramel shortbread"
4) "Obscure" Fruit – A surprise entry! Galia melon is always a winner for me.

Things that *wouldn't* feature for me are mainly smelly and "high risk" foods*. For example, I would happily go without egg and tuna sandwiches (on the smell factor) and prawn sandwiches (on the "likely to make me get food poisoning" factor).

And yourselves?

Pies and sausage rolls are a must.
A good selection of sandwiches including egg are essential.
I once played at a club where there were always coffee cakes and victoria sponges, which was a nice touch.
Cheese board.

I see we have disagreement already on the egg sandwich front!

Cheese board is an interesting one. I like the look of it usually more than I like the taste of it. Perhaps if they could be made into a croque monsieur as Mis once suggested, that would be a winner for me…

The Copeland

More vegetarian options. And not always cheese and egg. Necessity is the mother of invention.

How about some nice dips with crudités? Houmous, guacamole, mint yoghurt… actually that takes me onto something I've never seen at a cricket tea but would be highly welcome: Poppadums with – mango chutney, mint yoghurt, chopped onions and that other dodgy one.

Or some more inventive sandwiches – Mis still made the finest sandwiches ever seen at a cricket tea. The good old days of BYO at Yorkshire Gentlemen!

Poppadums eh. Now there's a thought. Good idea with keeping the lime pickle out of it (I presume this is the "dodgy one") – I wouldn't fancy batting after eating that.

Sausages and mustard. Very contemporary! Those are a definite winner in my book. We could even server them with a "selection of dips" (if we include ketchup). Linda McCartney sausages for the Copeland.
