FAQ
Where do you play?

We play our home games at Askham Bryan College near York. Visit the where to find us page to find further details. Our away games are played at various villages and locations in the Vale of York.
When do you play?
Most of our games are played on a Saturday afternoon. These games start at 2pm from April to August, and at 1:30pm in September. Occasionally games are played on a Sunday or an evening in midweek, though this is usually for cup or rescheduled matches.
What format of cricket is it – T20, 40 over, 50 over…?
We play 40 overs per innings, 1 innings per side. There is a maximum limit of 12 overs per bowler, which has been introduced for the 2010 season.
Are there any age limits for players?
A wide range of players play for teams in the vale league, from teenagers to people in their seventies. There is no maximum age limit. Players under the age of 13 must have written consent from a parent or guardian before playing.
Are there any special rules for junior players?
Each club is responsible for the well-being of their junior players (those under the age of 18). There are some rules for junior players that are designed to protect them – these limit the number of overs a junior fast bowler can bowl, make sure that the players are fielding in appropriate positions and require the use of adequate protection (e.g. helmets) when playing. See the Vale League rules page for further details.
What do I need in order to play?
A set of cricket whites, a decent pair of trainers/spiked shoes and some enthusiasm! It is good if you can bring any cricket equipment you have (bat, pads etc) but we can arrange for you to borrow some of these.
Are there club socials, gatherings etc?
Of course! The club has an active social secretary who arranges club events for team members and friends to attend. We’re also partial to the odd “lemonade” after the game – our “home” public house is the lovely Nag’s Head in Askham Bryan.
Do you do nets, practise games or sessions during the winter?
Yes we do – we tend to do pre-season nets starting in February or March, with ad-hoc practises during the season (April to September). This season we also had a practise game. There are no other “official” team practise sessions, though informally team members often have net sessions. A number of the team also play in indoor cricket leagues over the winter, where new players are always welcome.
