2017 New Season Update

2017 Update

2017 has arrived, so it’s time for a little update!

For those of you that aren’t aware, 2016 was a big season for the club. To set the scene, we began the year on the backfoot, needing to recruit several new players in order to rebuild the team following a challenging 2015 season.

Rebuild we did! Our pre-season nets were some of our most popular for several years, and we recruited several great new players and attracted a number of former players back to the club. We couldn’t, sadly, do much about the dreadful early season (and late season) weather that saw off several of our fixtures…

However, the season was a big triumph. Captain Jim took to his new role like a duck to water, continuing the positive approach taken by Ali the year before. We regularly scored large numbers of runs, Parag scoring big again, but ably supported by excellent innings from others including Dan W, Phil, Ali, Grewer, Dan Bird and several excellent cameos from others (lest we forget Dale and Jaros’s mighty stand!). They were all supported ably in the field by some wonderful bowling and fielding spells, and our new recruits really helped to bring the team alive.

So…what was the result? ABCC won the second division championship, and at the end of season awards scooped not only the second division award, but Club of The Year, Batsman of the season (Parag), Best Batting Average (Parag), and also a Lifetime Achievement Award for the wonderful Will Knight (and not forgetting an award for former ABCC player Geoff Deighton too).

This season we look forward to returning to Division 1 of the Vale League. We have already agreed pre-season nets for 4 weeks on Thursdays from 23rd March at the University of York, 7:30-9:30pm (first net free!) and hope to arrange some more. We are actively recruiting players, so if you’d like to get involved (no matter what age or standard) please come and join us!

We also have a date for our pre-season awards dinner, which will be at The Star Inn The City on Saturday the 4 February. Further details to be announced soon.
